Week 01: TRAIN

Why I TRAIN today and why it’s a non-negotiable.

NEVER ZERO // ISSUE N0. 032

week 01:

TRAIN.

In many ways, it feels like I’ve been training all my life. Whether it was racing BMX bikes as a kid, playing football growing up, or fighting for a spot on the podium of the CrossFit Games, I’ve always trained because I’ve always wanted to perform better.

From early on in my life, I was lucky enough to realize that the output you get usually correlates to the input you put in. Sure, you get lucky sometimes. But more often than not, the results you get in sports and in life are directly proportional to the work you put in.

That is why I trained back then — past tense.

But as I’ve grown older, training has taken on a completely different meaning for me. Does the output still correlate with the input? Yes, it does. But today, the output I am looking for isn’t a spot on a podium or recognition for winning an event. It wouldn't matter if I never won anything in my life again.

The output I train for today is to be the best father, husband, and leader I can be. As long as I show up for my family and my community, nothing else matters.

Today, I TRAIN because the most challenging things in life are the things you will never see coming. It’s the things outside of your control that will test your will and your preparation more than any event or competition you sign up for.

We all have those things in our lives that we didn’t sign up for. Unfortunately, we don’t choose some of the challenges we face. Some challenges choose us, and oftentimes, those are the things that are the hardest to overcome.

That is why I TRAIN today.

I TRAIN so I can be mentally and physically healthy to take on whatever life throws my way.

I TRAIN whether I am having a good day or a bad day because I can’t feel sorry for myself when life gets tough.

I TRAIN because it is something that is always 100% in my control.

I TRAIN to inspire those around me to do the same.

I TRAIN so that they have someone strong to lean on no matter what.

I TRAIN to PROTECT and PROVIDE, but more on that over the next two weeks!

YOU ARE THE AVERAGE OF THE PEOPLE YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH.
Share this knowledge with those in your life who are also driven to TRAIN, PROTECT, PROVIDE.
Together, we can build a brighter future by helping each other become the best version of ourselves.
