Finding Discomfort

We all live in a world cushioned by comfort, and I include myself in that statement. We do everything we can to avoid discomfort, which might be doing us more harm than good.

Think about it. Our days often start and end in comfort—from the memory foam mattress in a climate-controlled room to coffee at the push of a button. We live in an age where inconvenience is almost a foreign concept. Our food, entertainment, and even social interactions are often just a tap away. I don’t know when it happens, but we've engineered a world that helps us avoid discomfort at all costs.

If we get bored, we can always watch something on our phones. If we need something, Amazon is always just a click away. Food—DoorDash. Dating—swipe left and right. Information—Google. We’ve moved so far to eliminate pain points, resulting in soft men and women who can’t handle adversity like we used to.

Yet, there's one place where discomfort isn't just present; it's welcomed. That place is our training. In the gym, on the track, under the bar—when you TRAIN HARD, you are deciding to meet discomfort head-on. It's in these moments of physical challenge that we find mental and emotional growth. It’s these moments that are so important because, without them, when would we really face discomfort?

Why embrace discomfort? Because it's in these challenging moments that we grow — both physically and mentally.

Life will inevitably throw curveballs our way — it's not a matter of if but when. I’ve been there. I was in the hospital when my daughter was sick. I’ve spent sleepless nights when our gyms had to close down. And if I had spent my life shying away from discomfort, I would have crumbled when faced with real adversity.

This is why I started TRAIN HARD. It's not just about physical fitness. It's about preparing yourself for life. Training hard is our way of inoculating ourselves against life's inevitable hardships. It's about building a resilience that can only be forged in the fires of consistent, challenging, uncomfortable work.

So, as we go about our comfortable life, I challenge us to find your discomfort through training.

Push yourself harder, go a little longer, lift a bit heavier. Embrace the discomfort, for it is in these moments that you're truly preparing yourself for whatever life decides to throw your way.

Remember, the goal isn't to live a life free of discomfort; it's to become the kind of person who can thrive in spite of it.

TRAIN HARD.
